Sheet Metal Worker Education Requirements
The Sheet Metal Workers Union Local Union #12 continually invests in our workers’ futures through our Continuing Education Training Program.
Our journeypersons are able to update their skills and knowledge by working with the newest technologies and tools available in the industry! Training for Journeypersons and Apprentices through the SMWIA Local #12 Joint Apprenticeship Training Center (JATC) includes:

Basic Welding GMAW
This course is designed to enhance member skills in welding using the GMAW process. Class lab time will be focused on preparing for the light gauge certification test.
- 24 hours total
- Max 12 students
- Tuesdays & Thursdays 4/6-5/27, 5-8pm
Fire and Smoke Damper Technician
Certification for fire and smoke damper inspection. The class focuses on material needed to prepare for the certification test.
- 15 hours
- Max 12 students
- Tues 5/11, Thurs 5/13, Tues 5/18, Thurs 5/20, 5-8pm
- Certification Test Thursday 5/20
AutoCad/Revit
This course is for the members who were enrolled in this class prior to the shut down due to COVID and any member currently in a drafting room looking to improve their Revit skills. Drafting experience is a MUST for this class.
