Sheet Metal Worker Education Requirements

The Sheet Metal Workers Union Local Union #12 continually invests in our workers’ futures through our Continuing Education Training Program.

Sheet Metal Worker Education Requirements

REVIT 2

This class will take us from building individual items and single floor items to full building and multi-floor design. We will utilize Architectural, Structural, and Piping items with our primary focus on Sheet Metal using MEP Fabrication. We will learn templates, sheets and schedules to round out the drawing process.

Pre-requisite is to have taken Revit with me before or currently in the drafting room using Revit.

  • 36 hours total – Max 20 Participants
  • Classes meet 5 pm – 8 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Starting Tuesday, February 13th, 2024

Fire and Smoke Damper Technician 2nd edition

Certification for fire and smoke damper inspection. The class focuses on material needed to prepare for the Fire Smoke Damper Technician certification test.

The last class will be the ICB Certification test for Fire Smoke Damper Technician.

It is highly recommended that you take the online Fire Smoke Damper Technician 2nd Edition class on the sheetmetal-iti.org website to prepare for the class.

  • 18 hours total – Max 20 Participants
  • Classes meet 5 pm – 8 pm, Monday and Wednesdays

BASIC GTAW

The courses designed to enhance members skill in welding using the GTAW welding process. Classroom instruction and labs will be focused on preparing for the light gauge certification test.

Prerequisites Basic GMAW or SMAW   

  • 36 hours total – Max 6-8 Participants
  • Class meets 5 pm – 8 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Starting Tuesday, February 13th, 2024

ADVANCED SMAW 4G

This course is a continuation of the structural SMAW class focused on the overhead position.

Class instruction and labs will be focused on preparing for a qualification test.

Prerequisite advanced  SMAW

  • 36 hours total – Max 10 Participants
  • Classes meet 5 pm – 8 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Starting Tuesday February 13th, 2024

Architectural Soldering Certification

AWS B2.3:2018 Specification for Soldering Procedure & Performance Qualification 

This class will focus on soldering for the architectural industry with a certification test on the last day.

Classroom theory and lab will cover the tools, equipment, flux and solder types used for Architectural Soldering.

  • 24 hours total – Max 10-12 Participants
  • Classes meet 5 pm – 8 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Starting Tuesday, March 26th, 2024
  • 1 additional day for testing

HVAC SERVICE

This class will focus on the EPA 608 Certification

The EPA Section 608 test is a closed book test intended to measure a technicians basic knowledge of refrigerant containment laws set by the Clean Air Act. It covers modern service, installation, and disposal practices for refrigerant bearing appliance’s and the proper use and maintenance of refrigerant related tools. Questions are also included which require knowledge of how and why refrigerants are affecting our environment.

  • 40 hours total – Max 10-12 Participants
  • Classes meet 7 am – 3:30 pm, Saturday
  • Starting Saturday, March 2nd, 2024
  • 1 additional day for testing

LAGGING

This is an intense hands-on lab course and is geared toward securing our work at power plants, and other industrial facilities. this class can teach you the basic layout and hands skills needed to be proficient in the lagging process.

  • 30 hours total – Max 12 Participants
  • Classes meet 5pm – 8 pm, Monday and Wednesday
  • Starting Monday February 12th, 2024
